Each year more than 1,000 Australians donate their time and skills to volunteer in developing countries through the Government’s flagship Australian Volunteers program, helping to make our region more stable, secure and prosperous. On this International Volunteer Day I thank all Australian Volunteers – past and present – for their selfless contribution to regional growth and prosperity.
“The minute I stepped off the plane in Paro, an airport in the middle of a steep mountain range with prayer flags lining the single runway, I felt that sense of coming home.”
Our volunteers are at the forefront of Australia’s commitment to building greater understanding, tolerance and harmony in our region. Each and every one of these selfless people makes a contribution to the Australian Government’s strategic aim to improve the security and stability of Australia.
